KeyDrive II Overview

Keeping Information Safe

Your hard disk is where you store virtually all of your data. Keeping this information secure in case you lose your notebook, or it is stolen, is a vital part of everyday commercial practice. KeyDrive is available in versions to suit the single user, small to medium corporate users and large global enterprise users.

Security systems should work with the user - not against them. -the KeyDrive II family has been designed to be extremely simple to use.

Many methods of securing confidential information have surfaced over the last few years but most, if not all, become more difficult to use and implement as the levels of security required get higher and higher. The design goal of the KeyDrive Advanced Encryption System is to offer very high levels of security and encryption but with an ease of use that would make the implementation of the security system painless.

KeyDrive II adopts a very simple but very secure solution based on 'two-factor security'

Two-factor Security?

The KeyDrive Advanced Encryption System uses a two-factor approach employing something a user knows - a 4-digit PIN Code and something a user has - a USB key. Both of these must be used in combination to access the protected information.

By requiring all users to be in possession of a valid KeyDrive USB token and the correct user PIN code, before any access is granted to the KeyDrive II Secure Disk, we ensure that only properly authorised and authenticated users can see and work with your information. Many methods of securing confidential information have surfaced over the last few years but most, if not all, become more difficult to use and implement as the levels of security required get higher and higher. The design goal of the KeyDrive Authenticated Drive Encryption system is to offer very high levels of security and encryption but with an ease of use that would make the implementation of the security system painless.

To achieve this goal KeyDrive II implements hardware based authentication using a token policy and a personal administration programme. By only allowing the authenticated user access to the encryption and decryption capabilities of KeyDrive it is virtually impossible for any third party not in possession of a valid authentication device (USB token) to gain unauthorised access to the secured information.

KeyDrive II manages all access to the encryption and decryption capabilities via the authentication device. A user must be in possession of the authentication device and have been properly authenticated to the device by supplying a user PIN number established by the user during the initial administration set-up.

Without a valid key and proper authentication it is not possible to access the information protected by KeyDrive II.

The KeyDrive II Advanced Encryption System consists of three discrete elements?/P>
A solid-state authentication device, which securely stores the user's access control information and location details of the encrypted data.
A software client which resides on the user's PC or notebook and which cannot be activated unless a valid authentication device is in place and the user has properly authenticated to the device.

A simple Administrator routine, which allows the user to personalize his or her options into the authentication device.

Use KeyDrive II on your Notebook and your Desktop. Wherever you are KeyDrive II will be working to protect you.

KeyDrive II supports Windows 98/ME/2000 and XP. KeyDrive II provides powerful encryption services and data protection for users on the move, at home or in the office. This member of the KeyDrive Family is for single users and small corporates who do not need the additional features of KeyDrive II Pro.

Installation

Installation takes less than five minutes. Your new KeyDrive II secure volume is created for you automatically - That's all there is to it. KeyDrive II is now ready to begin protecting your data.

KeyDrive II supports volumes of up to 2000 MBytes (2GB) and allows use of the KeyDrive device on more than one PC. In this way you can create a KeyDrive II volume at the office and have an identical volume at home to protect your data at both locations.

Using KeyDrive II

Normal use of KeyDrive II is identical for the stand alove version and for KeyDrive II Pro and couldn't be easier.

At the start of the day/session just plug the key into a USB connection on the protected PC or laptop and they will be prompted to enter their PIN number, just like using their cash card. When they've finished their session, close the files and applications pull out their token and the encrypted drive is secure and invisible - in fact if you now go to Explorer you can't even see it.

To summarise?

PLUG your TOKEN IN a USB port and enter your PIN - your DATA IS VISIBLE and accessible?
PULL IT OUT and it is SECURE and INVISIBLESimple as that!!

The Long Version...

Plug the token into a USB connection on your computer and you will be prompted for a PIN No.
This login information is verified and if correct, access is granted to your secure drive on your computer or network
If the token is removed from the USB port or an invalid PIN code is entered, access is denied.
Any application saved to the secure drive area will automatically have its data encrypted and is decrypted when loaded back into the application.

Let's walk through it one more time?/p>
KeyDrive creates an additional drive on the hard disk - let's call this the S:\ drive. This drive is ALWAYS ENCRYPTED, and can only be accessed when you plug in the special USB token into a USB port on the laptop and enter a PIN number chosen by and known only to you.
With the token in place the drive is mounted and is visible. Files can be read, saved, copied and deleted to and from as if it were a normal drive.
Take the key out of the USB port-and it disappears. The S:\ drive is dismounted and reverts to its hidden state. It is removed from the drive list in Explorer and is both ENCRYPTED and INVISIBLE

If you lose your key or forget your PIN, YOU can recover your data but no one else can.

How does KeyDrive II Work?

All data stored on the All data stored in a secure KeyDrive II volume, whether locally or on a network drive is encrypted when en route to and from the application using the secure KeyDrive volume - it is automatically, transparently and in real-time encrypted or de-crypted when used by the application.
